What is a Payment Gateway?
A payment gateway is a web-based program that allows e-commerce merchants to accept and process credit cards and electronic checks for payment online. Think of it like the handheld phone that you need in order to utilize your phone service. For the transactions you process in CamperReg to be authorized and deposited into your merchant account, you have to have a gateway. In our phone example, even though you may have phone service, you still need a handheld phone to place that call. The payment gateway is like your phone, a tool needed to accomplish a specific task.
The Customer Vault
The Customer Vault is a product feature of all Network Merchants payment gateways and addresses Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard regulations concerning the protection of, and storage of, cardholder data. These data protection regulations have become a major concern for merchants who handle credit card and/or electronic check
payment information, but are looking to avoid the tremendous costs and resources involved in becoming PCI
compliant. By choosing CamperReg, and its' seamless integration with the Network Merchants Customer Vault, we have removed all the headaches associated with this development, and become PCI compliant for you.
Customer Vault Solution
The Customer Vault allows merchants to transmit their payment information through a Secure Sockets
Layer (SSL) connection for storage in the Network Merchants Level 1 PCI certified data facility. Once the customer record has been securely transmitted to the Customer Vault, the merchant can then initiate transactions remotely
without having to access cardholder information directly. This process is accomplished without the
merchant storing the customer’s payment information in their CamperReg system.
Furthermore, using the Network Merchants Customer
Vault approach allows camp directors to process transactions without transmitting any payment information through their CamperReg system. This unique approach provides best of class application flexibility without any PCI compliancy concerns.
How it works with An initial Customer Record creation using the Customer Vault
1. Your client securely submits their sensitive payment details via the CamperReg online registration form directly into your Customer Vault.
2. Your Customer Vault receives and securely stores the submitted payment information, creates a randomly generated token number, for instance "12345", and transmits that number for storage inside your CamperReg system. This new number is then associated with, and stored on, the corresponding customer record inside your CamperReg system.
30 days later, Merchant wishes to charge the customer either the full amount due, the deposit amount, or any client-requested payment amount, using Customer Vault token number “12345”
3. CamperReg connects to the Customer Vault and remotely loads customer record “12345” to initiate the requested payment charge.
5. The payment gateway processes the transaction and responds to CamperReg notifying your system that the requested charge was either accepted and processed successfully, or declined.
